# Before You Book All-Inclusive: 10 Questions to Ask
Planning an all-inclusive vacation should feel exciting from the very beginning. You picture warm sunshine, easy mornings, delicious meals and time together: without spending your holiday managing details.
But the resort with the prettiest photos is not always the resort that best suits your family, your relationship or your travel style.
As an All Inclusive Resort Specialist, Certified Travel Counsellor (CTC) and Certified Cruise Counsellor (CCC), I ask thoughtful questions before recommending a resort. These are often the questions DIY bookers forget to ask: and they can make the difference between a good holiday and an unforgettable one.

🌟 1. What do you want this vacation to feel like?
This is always one of my first questions.
Do you want peaceful mornings and quiet evenings? A lively atmosphere with activities all day? Family-friendly entertainment? Adults-only relaxation? A romantic setting for your honeymoon or anniversary?
A resort can have beautiful beaches and excellent reviews yet still feel completely wrong for your preferred pace.
I look at the experience behind the photographs:
- Do you want a quiet pool or a social pool with music?
- Would you rather explore or stay close to the resort?
- Are you hoping to rest, celebrate, reconnect or make memories with the children?
- Do you prefer a large resort with many dining and activity choices, or a smaller and more intimate property?
Your answer helps me match the resort’s personality to yours.
💰 2. What is actually included in the price?
“All-inclusive” does not mean every possible experience is included. The details can vary between resorts and packages.
Before booking, ask what is included in the total price: and what may cost extra. This could include:
- À-la-carte dining or restaurant reservations
- Premium beverages
- Spa treatments
- Motorized watersports
- Off-resort excursions
- Golf
- Room service
- Airport transfers
- Wi-Fi or other on-site services
I also confirm whether the price is in Canadian dollars and whether taxes, fees and service charges are included. A clear, realistic budget helps you enjoy your holiday without unexpected surprises.
Honest guidance matters. My role is not to steer you towards the most expensive option. It is to find the right fit for your needs, wants and budget, then explain the choices clearly.
✈️ 3. How will you get there from Ontario?
Your holiday begins well before you arrive at the resort.
I ask where you would prefer to depart from, such as Toronto Pearson International Airport or another Ontario airport, and whether your preferred travel dates have suitable flight options. We also consider:
- Flight schedules and travel times
- Non-stop or connecting flights
- Baggage allowances
- Arrival and departure times
- Whether the resort package includes transfers
- How long the journey from the airport to the resort may take
A late arrival can affect your first evening. An early departure may mean leaving the resort before breakfast. These details are easy to overlook when booking online, but they can shape how relaxed your trip feels.
🛏️ 4. Which room category will work best for you?
Room names can sound similar while offering very different experiences.
Before booking, I ask about the features that matter most to you:
- One king bed or two double beds?
- Balcony or terrace?
- Garden, pool or ocean view?
- Ground floor or upper floor?
- Close to the restaurants and pool, or in a quieter area?
- Space for a cot, rollaway bed or older children?
- A swim-up room, private terrace or connecting rooms?
Location matters, too. A room beside nightly entertainment may be convenient for some travellers but too noisy for a family with young children or a couple hoping for peace and quiet.
I work hard to match the room category: not simply the resort: to the way you want to spend your holiday.
👨👩👧👦 5. Is the resort right for your family or adults-only getaway?
A family resort and an adults-only resort can offer completely different atmospheres.
For families, I may ask:
- What ages are the children?
- Is there a kids’ club that suits them?
- Are there splash areas or shallow pools?
- Are cribs and highchairs available?
- Is the resort easy to navigate with a stroller?
- Are family rooms or connecting rooms available?
- Are there early dining options?
For couples, I ask whether you prefer:
- A quiet adults-only resort
- A lively property with evening entertainment
- A private beach or adults-only pool
- Romantic dining options
- A smaller boutique atmosphere
- Plenty of activities and excursions
There is no universal “best” resort. There is only the best match for you.
♿ 6. What accessibility and mobility features do you need?
Accessible travel planning should be specific, respectful and completed before the reservation is finalized.
If you or someone travelling with you has mobility needs, I ask about the details that will make the trip more comfortable:
- Is there a step-free route from the lobby to the room?
- Are elevators, ramps and handrails available?
- Is an accessible room required?
- Does the bathroom have a roll-in shower or grab bars?
- How wide are the doors?
- Is the room close to restaurants, the pool or the beach?
- Are resort shuttles or golf carts available?
- Are restaurants, entertainment venues and washrooms accessible?
I do not rely on a vague “accessible” label. I help clarify what the resort actually offers and what should be requested for your reservation.
🍽️ 7. How will the resort handle your food preferences?
Food is a major part of the all-inclusive experience.
I ask whether you have food allergies, dietary preferences or other requirements, then look at the resort’s restaurants and dining procedures. Depending on your needs, we may discuss:
- Vegetarian or vegan choices
- Gluten-free options
- Allergy communication
- À-la-carte reservation policies
- Buffet variety
- Children’s menus
- Room service
- Early or late dining availability
It is helpful to contact the resort in advance when there are serious allergies or specific dietary requirements. While no travel advisor can promise that every resort kitchen will meet every need, careful planning gives you a better opportunity to enjoy meals with confidence.
🌊 8. What activities will you genuinely use?
A resort may advertise dozens of activities, but you may only care about a few.
Would you like a calm beach, a fitness centre, non-motorized watersports, a kids’ programme, live entertainment or easy access to excursions?
I ask what you imagine doing on an ordinary day: not just what sounds impressive in a brochure. This helps us avoid paying for a resort filled with features you will not use.
You may also want to clarify:
- Which activities are included?
- Which excursions cost extra?
- Are reservations required?
- Is equipment available on-site?
- Are activities suitable for children or guests with limited mobility?
- Are there quieter options for days when you want to slow down?
Your ideal holiday may include adventure. Or it may include a book, a beach chair and absolutely no schedule.
🚐 9. What will arrival and departure look like?
Transfers are an important part of a seamless vacation, especially after a flight from Ontario.
I confirm whether transportation between the airport and resort is included, and whether it is shared or private. I also consider:
- The distance from the airport
- Approximate transfer time
- Accessibility requirements
- Whether the vehicle can accommodate mobility equipment
- Arrival procedures at the resort
- Departure pick-up timing
- How early you may need to leave for your flight home
Knowing the plan ahead of time reduces uncertainty and helps you feel prepared from the moment you land.
📅 10. What happens if your plans change?
Life does not always follow the itinerary.
Before booking, I explain the applicable cancellation, change and travel insurance terms as clearly as possible. We discuss what coverage may be appropriate and which deadlines matter.
I also ask whether your travel dates are flexible. Ontario school holidays, March Break, Christmas and peak winter travel periods can affect pricing and availability. A small shift in dates may change the options available to you.
Transparency, integrity and honest guidance are central to my planning process. I want you to understand your choices before making a decision: not feel pressured into one.
